Aldi To Open 80 New Stores In 2016

Aldi has announced it is to open 80 new stories, adding fuel to rumours that the German discount supermarket is coming to Bath.

Impressive sales growth of 4.4 per cent has seen the grocer perform ahead of the market, increasing its share from 24.8 per cent previous year.

The survey also found that Dunnes Stores improved the most when it comes to sales as figures were up 5.1 percent on 2015.

The aggressive expansion by the German-owned company will bump the total number of United Kingdom supermarkets to 700 and its workforce will increase to around 32,000.

Cut price supermarket Aldi is recruiting for around 50 store positions across Luton and Dunstable as part of a significant recruitment drive.

However, the retailer disclosed that it will open a new store in Eastbourne and one in Chipping Norton.

‘Aldi provides all staff with extensive training and development opportunities to ensure they have the necessary skills to make a real success of their career’.

Aldi and Lidl have doubled their market share in three years.

That saw it close the gap on Aldi, moving to a 7.4 per cent share of the market against the 8 per cent of its rival. “Combined with a 0.4 percentage point increase in price inflation over the past 12 weeks, this means that consumers have been spending more on their grocery shopping than this time previous year”.

The most recent figures from Kantar Wolrdpanel show that Aldi’s growth rate continues to accelerate.

However, a spokesman for the company said they would not be revealing any additional stores following today’s recruitment announcement.
