Burger King goes to the hot dogs, adds grilled franks to menu

The fast food chain is broadening its beef kingdom to include two different kinds of grilled hot dogs permanently hitting the menu at its roughly 7,100 US locations later this month.

The Classic Grilled Dog is topped with ketchup, mustard, chopped onions and relish. Prices will vary by location, but the recommended price is $1.99 for the classic and $2.29 for the chilidog.

Burger King today announced a surprise addition to its menu. The fast food chain has partnered with Oscar Mayer to make the hot dogs.

As competition grows, Burger King is also strategizing moves to boost sales.

Burger King didn’t have to look far to find a supplier. One executive called the hot dog is the biggest launch since 1970s, when the company introduced its chicken sandwich.

In Atlanta, hot dogs are topped with coleslaw, and Kansas City dogs feature melted Swiss cheese and sauerkraut.

BURGER KING® restaurants are bringing the signature flame-grilling technique they’ve been perfecting for more than 60 years to hot dogs with the launch of Grilled Dogs.

“In quick service, you can’t take yourself too seriously”, says Alex Macedo, president of Burger King’s North American operation. They would give it away for free to guests in the restaurants.

“We made a bunch of mistakes and we learned a lot“, Macedo said, adding, that customers advised the QSR to stick to the basics.

The Grilled Dogs at Burger King will come in a pair of varieties.

To get workers excited, Burger King says it enlisted Snoop Dogg and Charo to star in training videos for making the hot dogs.
