Garmin, the Sat-Nav maker has introduced 2 new high-definition action cameras; The Virb X and Virb XE will be launched at a price of $349 and $466 and will be available in the market this summer.

Garmin has made both models to be water proof to a depth of 50m without a case and has the capability to capture action data such as G-force and speed data with Garmin’s bespoke system G-Metrix. This can be used to overlay the footage later.

The top seller GoPro currently dominates the market. The first action was launched by Garmin in 2013 and was known as Virb.

The market is currently dominated by top seller GoPro, Sony, Polaroid, HTC and Xiaomi are among other tech firms offering rival devices.

Users who use the higher-end Virb XE are able to manually use the control advanced settings, this includes the white balance, sharpness, color profile and exposure levels.

Users can also shoot videos in HD at a quality of 1440p/30fps (frames per second) or 1080p/60fps, with the cheaper X version offering 1080p/30fps or 720p/60fps.However, both of the models can capture images up to 12 megapixels with wi-fi and Bluetooth connectivity.

Garmin says that that next battleground will be the 360 camera segment and it will be interesting battle as the prices drop and the product improves, when they step in this segment.
