LastPass is well known company that works to keep your passwords safe. But, nowadays keeping only a password isn’t enough for security. This is the reason that many security services have employed 2-factor authentication to secure the user’s account.

Now, LastPass Authenticator is the new 2-factor authentication app launched by the company to elevate the security of your account. The new app by LastPass is currently available for Android and iOS users and will soon be launched for the Windows phone users.

All the apps and websites supporting Google Authenticator, such as Dropbox, Evernote, Facebook, WordPress and more are compatible with LastPass 2-Factor Authentication App.

The company wrote in a blog post regarding the LastPass Authenticator:

“We’re on a mission to make it simple and convenient for you to follow best practices for protecting your personal information. With LastPass Authenticator, it’s easier than ever for you to turn on two-factor authentication for your LastPass account and other services.”

So what does LastPass Authenticator app do?

Basically, the 2-FA app from the company adds an extra security layer to your LastPass account. Whenever you’ll login to the app, it’ll send a 6-digit, time-sensitive passcodes to access to your account. You’ll be able to login only after the verification of the second step.

This app is handy for those people who always logout of LastPass after they’re done with it or use a shared computer.

How to activate the new app with your LastPass account?

  • Firstly, download the app on your smartphone.
  • Login to LastPass on PC and open your vault.
  • Open Account Settings.
  • Edit LastPass Authenticator under the Multifactor Options.
  • Follow the instructions given on screen
  • Scan the barcode with the LastPass Authenticator app.
  • Set preferences for your account and save the changes.
