The Ricoh Theta S lets you upload 360-degree spherical images directly to Google Maps

The Ricoh Theta S has been unleashed by the camera maker at IFA 2015 in Berlin. It is Ricoh’s latest 360-degree spherical camera, which comes with many enhancements over the previous models.

The Ricoh Theta S is called the “industry’s most advanced fully spherical portable camera,” which uses two 1/2.3-inch 12MP CMOS sensors along with two fast f/2 lenses with a large aperture. Each lens captures 180 degrees, and both images are combined to create a true spherical 360 – degree photo.

What are the improvements?

The Ricoh Theta S can capture spherical images with a total resolution of almost 14 megapixels, while it can record spherical videos in full HD (1920 x 1080) at 30 frames per second for up to 25 minutes. After capturing any spherical photo or video, you can now share it on Twitter, Tumblr and Facebook. You are also given the option to share across YouTube’s own 360-degree channel and Google Maps.

The company has also developed a new app to complement the Ricoh Theta S, which offers a remote-viewing mode along with the ability to adjust camera settings manually like white balance, shutter speed and ISO from your smartphone.

If you want to edit the photos and videos, and create time-lapse videos, Theta+ app is available. Ricoh has also added the Live View function with still images, which will let you display 10fps images as a preview on your phone.

The company has added an LED status notification on the camera, which allows you to switch between video mode and still image more easily than old models. Ricoh claims that the upgraded WiFi module in the Theta S is four times faster than the previous model and it comes with the storage capacity of 8GB.

What is the cost of the Ricoh Theta S?

If you are interested in buying the third generation 360 degree spherical camera of Ricoh, then you can preorder it on their website for $349 and will be available in October this year.
