Twitter Periscope video app surpassed 10 million users in just 4 months

The Twitter Periscope video app is a complete success; in just a span of four months the app has crossed more than 10 million registered users. According to the company, nearly more than two million users are active on its video streaming service daily.

The Periscope was acquired earlier this year for $100m when the service was competing against Meerkat, which reportedly had more than 60,000 users at that time. Initially, the app was released exclusively for iOS users, but later it was released for Android users in May.

What is Twitter Periscope video app all about?

The Periscope app lets any user to broadcast live video captured by their smartphone camera to fellow Periscope users and also let user to promote the same on Twitter to get more traffic. According to a report by TechCrunch, more than 350,000 hours of videos are being streamed by Twitter Periscope video app users every day.

The videos that are streamed via Internet browsers on periscope.tv are not included in this number. According to the company officials, the company did not include videos streamed through browsers because first they want to track the app users.

Periscope posted a message on Medium:

“At the moment, we don’t include time watched from periscope.tv in our overall Time Watched metric – but we’re working on being able to track this precisely enough to share.”

The app developers are now working to add new features to the app, like a fast-forward button for streams watched in replay. They are also working on measures to decrease spam content and remove abusive content.

The Twitter Periscope video app is currently available for both iOS and Android users. The app was developed by Joe Bernstein and Kayvon Beykpour.
