If you don’t like to go to a crowded place to watch live events, but want to enjoy it, Facebook new live event streaming feature will let you do that. The company debuts its feature at the Lollapalooza music festival.

The move by social media giant to get into real-time event coverage is an effort to compete with live social platforms like Twitter and Snapchat. Facebook new live event streaming feature will combine public content, such as photos from the stage and updates from performers like the Kaskade and Cold War Kids, with posts from friends attending the festival.

A Facebook spokesperson told Business Insider in an email regarding Lollapalooza 2015 live stream:

“This is the first time Place Tips will be implemented for an event and until now, Place Tips have only been available when you’re at a particular place. During Lollapalooza, fans around the U.S. will be able to browse Lollapalooza Place Tips to see posts and photos from their friends who are there and live, trending content from the festival.”

Last year at the Electric Daisy Carnival, Snapchat introduced the ‘Our Story’ feature, which let attendees at an event to post videos and photos to a single stream. Since then the company has expanded the idea to Snapchat Live, where it broadcasts various live events.

A Facebook spokeswoman told The Wall Street Journal regarding Facebook Lollapalooza feed:

“This Place Tips Lollapalooza experience is just one of the many ways Facebook is trying to help people get the feel of an event when they’re not there.”

Usually Place Tips are confined to a location that is near you or the one that you are actually at. With Facebook new live event streaming feature which debuts at Lollapalooza, the company is unlocking these location restrictions.

According to Facebook, its remote Place Tips streams are different from Snapchat because users will see content from their friends and not just content curated from all users. Facebook new live event streaming feature will first be tested at Lollapalooza and will then be continued.
