Amazon Geared Up To Enter Video Game Development In A Big Way

A year ago when Twitch– a popular game streaming website was acquired by Online Retail Giant – Amazon for $970 million all paid in cash, Amazon signalled to the gaming industry that they are going to give some cut throat competition to other game developing companies.

As of now, Amazon makes games that are playable on our TV through its Fire TV Internet set-top box. Amazon started making a $40 game controller available with the launch of the Fire TV set-top box to play games such as Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Minecraft on TV’s.

Currently, Amazon’s game library has grown to about 700 and users can access the GameFly video game rental streaming service at around$6.99 per month.

In their endeavor to splash their name across gaming market, Amazon Game Studios has gathered their team members from Half-Life, Portal, World of Warcraft, BioShock and other successful games.

Kim Swift -Amazon’s senior designer said in a post on LinkedIn that “We want people that are driven to make the best games in the industry. We’re looking to take interesting risks, and invent!”

On May 26, she posted the “Amazon Game Studios is Hiring” but it got noticed after Gamasutra posted the news in an Amazon sponsored note an “ambitious new PC game project.”

Amazon is well known for selling everything and anything online. But recently, Amazon is trying to raid into the digital media market which includes the production of an award winning TV show called “Transparent”.

According to a report, Amazon is now working for the development of a revolutionary video game that shall integrate AWS cloud & Twitch together for creating something peculiar. Amazon’s main aim of using Twitch & AWS cloud together is to provide a more immersive game play and unite gamers across all platforms.
