Star Wars: Episode VIII is coming on May 26, 2017
If you are looking for Star War news, then here it is. Disney kicked up some dust with two big announcements about the future of its oldest cinematic universe: Star Wars: Episode VIII.
The episode VIII will hit theaters on 26 May, 2017 and the title of the franchise’s first stand-alone film will be Rogue One. The movie will be written and directed by Rian Johnson, who directed the Looper and Breaking Bad episodes.
Rian Johnson is brilliant and has proven his deftness with everything from time-travel tropes to Breaking Bad. So, the fact that he now has a license to drive Star Wars promises very good things.
Star Wars: Episode VIII is releasing more than a year after ‘The Force Wake’ that is scheduled for December 18. Also, the release date is slotted for less than two years after Episode VII, coming out on Dec. 18, 2015.
Star Wars: Episode VIII features Rogue One and Felicity Jones
Rogue One will star Theory of Everything actress Felicity Jones. The movie is based on an idea from Industrial Light & Magic VFX maestro John Knoll. The shooting will start this summer in London.
“It’s the first film in a unique series of big-screen adventures that explores the characters and events beyond the core Star Wars saga.”
Felicity Jones was the only cast member announced yet, which may be a nod to critics who objected to the lack of female roles in the casting announcement for Episode VII last year. The actress has earned an Oscar nomination this year for best actress for her performance as Jane Wilde Hawking in ‘The Theory of Everything’.
Rogue One: Commander of the Rebel Squadron
Rogue One is popularly known as the commander of the Rebel Squadron, so some crazy space dogfights are expected in Star War: Episode VIII.
