Barclaycard Android app to support NFC payments from November

The credit card provider revealed that Barclaycard Android app to support NFC payments from November. Google has not yet launched Android Pay in the UK and its competitors are on its way.

Presently, nearly 40 per cent of the smartphones in the UK have built-in NFC after its introduction to Android phones in 2011. NFC technology is also supported by the iPhone 6, 6 Plus and iPhone 6S, 6S Plus. The updated Barclaycard Android app to support NFC payments and will let its customers’ make transactions of up to £30 by touching their device to a pay point and can make payments of up to £100 by entering a PIN.

Additionally, the updated app includes a direct line to the customer care centre to report a stolen, lost or damaged card and receive an “instant card replacement.” A new, virtual card will be added to the customers’ app after their request, so that he or she can begin using it straight away, while the physical card comes.

These new features transform Android phones into a mobile hub for our customers, allowing them to manage their account on the go, make contactless payments up to £100 and have a lost or stolen card instantly reissued – letting them continue to make contactless payments straight away.”

According to the stats of the UK Cards Association, the number of contactless transactions in the UK has risen by nearly 240 per cent in the last year. Now, Barclaycard Android app to support NFC payments from November, the chances are it will be beneficial for them, if we go with the stats.
