Facebook Lite For Android Users Officially Roll-out In Asia
Facebook has released the ‘Lite’ version of its application today that was customized for people who are using Android smartphones. The app was created especially for those places where wireless data bandwidth is very less.
The company said that the Facebook Lite version was developed to use less data and work well despite of potentially constrained telecommunications network conditions in developing countries.
The new app named Facebook Lite weights less than 1MB. It uses tricks like downloading photos at a lower quality to ensure the app is as speedy as possible.
Facebook Lite is part of world’s largest social network’s greatest effort to expand into the developing world. Facebook has been stepping up its operations in African, Asian and South American countries, using everything from the Internet.org to flying drones that broadcast Internet access even to remote areas of the planet.
Facebook has started rolling out ‘Lite’ version in Asia and said that the app will be available in part of Latin America, Africa and Europe in the coming few weeks.
The world’s largest social network said in an online post:
“In many areas, networks can be slow and not able to support all the functionality found in Facebook for Android.”
“Facebook Lite was built for these situations, giving people a reliable Facebook experience when bandwidth is at a minimum,” it added.
Facebook Lite is free to download like other primary apps, but is available only for devices powered by Google’s Android operating system.
