Nokia to Re-Enter Smartphone Business by 2016 and is Looking for a Partner

Nokia was once the world’s largest mobile manufacturer, but they could not maintain that position after Android phones dominated the mobile market and in 2014 Microsoft acquired Nokia. Now, according to the statements made by Nokia officials, Nokia to re-enter smartphone business by 2016 and is looking for a partner.

Surprisingly, Nokia last year launched the Android N1 tablet powered by Intel processors. Unlike previous products of Nokia, the company had licensed its branding to a Chinese manufacturer, which in turn launched the tablet in limited markets.

What the company’s spokesperson said on the plans by the Nokia to re-enter smartphone business by 2016?

Robert Morlino, the spokesperson for Nokia’s technology division, said “We also aim to continue bringing our iconic design capabilities and technology innovation to the mobile space, and in the form of amazing products people can someday hold in their hands. However, we’ll do it in a completely different way from before.”

He added, “If and when we find a world-class partner who can take on those responsibilities, we would work closely with them to guide the design and technology differentiation, as we did with the Nokia N1 Android tablet.”

Nokia to re-enter smartphone business by 2016 in the last quarter because of the restrictions placed from the Microsoft acquisition end. According to the terms of the Nokia-Microsoft deal, Microsoft had restricted the Finnish company to use the Nokia brand on smartphones till the last quarter of 2016, and on feature phones for ten years. Nokia to re-enter smartphone business by 2016 and is now hunting for a partner who would take care of all things from manufacturing, marketing, sales and customer support as well.
