Super Bowl 50 Halftime Show

Rockers Coldplay have landed the coveted 2016 Super Bowl half-time show slot, according to multiple reports.

Super Bowl 50 will take place on February 7, 2016 at the Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, CA.

The NFL is expected to make the announcement official during the broadcast of Thursday’s game between the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers.

Last year’s half time show featured pop star Katy Perry, who performed to a worldwide audience of over 110 million. Who’s my favorite band releasing new music at this specific moment in time?

Coldplay has just released their seventh album, A Head Full Of Dreams, via iTunes today.

A source I thought reliable turned out to be incorrect when informing me earlier this week that Bruno Mars was going to centerpiece the halftime show.

“We’re so excited and honoured and thrilled”, says frontman Chris Martin in a video published to YouTube by Super Bowl sponsors Pepsi, which promises to introduce a series of behind-the-scenes videos about the staging of the show.

The 2014 performance by singer Bruno Mars and the energetic American band Red Hot Chili Peppers got 115.3 million viewers. While the artists aren’t paid to perform, they are reimbursed with the exposure, which theoretically results in album and concert ticket sales down the road. Coldplay is the first traditional rock act to play the gig since The Who headlined Super Bowl XLIV in Miami in 2010. Conversely, the Super Bowl halftime show is an incredibly flamboyant tribute to all things over the top, featuring big-name celebrities, elaborate pyrotechnics, and some of the best wardrobes (and wardrobe malfunctions) this side of the 2001 VMAs.
