Actually, GoPro is rebranding and relaunching, “Quik” for iOS and Android and “Splice” for iOS, the two mobile video editing apps that it bought back in February.

The aptly named Quik requires minimal effort. Those who like a little control, Splice is the name for them.

Quik (earlier “Replay”) is designed to create “professionally edited” videos in just a few taps, even if you don’t how to edit.

You can easily cut down video yourself, crop the image, add text and drop in some music from its selections or yours.

You can also select multiple videos that are stored on your phone, pick a soundtrack, and Quik will automatically edit the videos together.

The app uses algorithms to search the best moments in each video and can even add effects, transitions, and filters.

When the video is ready, you can either post it directly to social media or go back to make minor tweaks to it.

If it still sounds like too much work, then Quik can scan your phone’s videos and present you with an automatically edited highlight video every week. This sounds interesting!!

Splice, which luckily keeps its pre-acquisition name, promises “professional desktop editor at your fingertips”. You can trim and change the speed of your clips, choose from various filters, transitions, and text options.

The best thing about it is – you can also narrate a video or mix multiple audio tracks together.

But what about the people who don’t own GoPros?

Well, this isn’t just a great news for people who have GoPros, because both the apps will also work with footage that you’ve shot with your smartphone.

2015 wasn’t a great year for GoPro as the company’s revenue and stock price fell. And it was also sued by Polaroid.
