iPhone 6 Plus: US Overall Phablet Sales Leader

iPhone 6 Plus: US Overall Phablet Sales Leader

The year’s first quarter was dominated by phablet sales in the US, and Kantar Worldpanel ComTech reported that the iPhone 6 Plus from Apple was the clear leader basing on overall sales.

Phablets are smartphones that feature screens that are 5.5 inches or more in size. It was also reported that 21% of all smartphone sales in the US last quarter were phablets, a huge increase compared from 2014’s first quarter which was only 6%.

The iPhone 6 Plus’ overall sales were 44% of all phablet sales in the US last quarter. Data showed that the screen’s size was the main reason for its good overall sales performance.

Apple had been performing poorly on the smartphone market share before the new models were released. This is mainly because more individuals preferred Google’s Android operating phones.

Strategy Analytics also reported last month that the release of the new iPhone models has gained Apple its lost ground, even if Samsung stayed at the top position last quarter.

Kantar also reported that iPhone overall sales took the top place last quarter at Verizon, AT&T,  and Sprint where it accounted for 59%, 43% and 50% of overall smartphone sales, respectively. Meanwhile, at T-Mobile, Samsung was in the top position when it comes to smartphone buyers with an overall share of 42%.

18% of all iPhone units being used in the US are iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus while 64% are iPhone 5, 5S and 5C.
